Designing your new motel or hotel key rings is easy. Hotel and motel key tag design tips

What should you include on your custom hotel or motel key tags? Here are a few practical considerations:

Security

Unidentified key tags provide more security should the key be lost, or not returned on checkout. Qualmark requirements state that the property name and room number shouldn’t appear together on the key tag, and we also recommend this for security reasons.

Logos & branding

If your property is part of a hotel group or chain, or if you have any trade association memberships, you can include these logos to make your key tags professional and stylish.

Lost key return

New Zealand Post offers a secure lost key return service for a small fee. We can include your non-identifying return address on your key tags, so they can be easily returned to you if lost or not returned on checkout.

Secure Code Service

This service uses Custom Tags’ PO Box as the return address, including a discreet code number on the back of the tag so we know who to return it to. When a key tag is returned via this service we post it back to you and send an email notification. There is no charge for setting up the service and for each key tag returned you are invoiced $6.75 + GST.  This service is only provided for purchasers of  key tags and printed inserts from Custom Tags.

Key storage

Consider how your keys are stored when not in use – are they visible? Are they stored horizontally or vertically? We can design your key tags so they look their best behind your reception desk.

Images

If you choose not to include your logo for security reasons, why not choose an image instead? Search www.shutterstock.com and tell us the image ID number, and we’ll include it in your design for just $20.

Colours

You can tell us exactly which colours you’d like on your key tags by downloading a colour chart, and telling us the Pantone number of the colours you choose.

Fonts

Our standard font is Helvetica.  If you know the name of the font you use let us know.  You can choose a font or style using this classification.

Design Examples

All logos and unique designs show below are the property of the owners and cannot be used or copied in anyway. 

The exception is the Silver Fern design No.23.  This is Custom Tags generic design that can be used by any customer.  It can be used to replace the Motel Association of NZ & Accommodation New Zealand logos as these associations no longer exist, if you want an anonymous design.
